Forest Practices Programs

Basic Forest Practices Workshop (BFPW)
For Operators and Landowners

  • Qualifies for 6 credits of OPL-FP Initial or Maintenance
  • Required for Initial OPL
  • As of 2008 SFT-Video Emp Training is required as well

BFPW OBJECTIVE: To familiarize forest operators with an overview of entire Oregon Forest Practices Act & Rules, plus their enforcement and guidance. A few new forest practices topics will be included in the 2005 classes. This class is recommended for crew supervisors, key employees, as well as company owner-operators. Taught by ODF foresters. OPL-Forest Practices credit is also available from consultation or meeting with ODF Stewardship Forester on-the-job concerning your particular worksite, or other current forest practices compliance. AOL has a form for your use to report this credit: 'Consultation for OPL-FP Credit'

Oregon Professional Logger Program

Oregon Professional Logger Program – OPL
OPL Initial accreditation requires a logging-operator company to complete the 6-hour ‘Basic Forest Practices Workshop’, plus 26-hours of additional continuing education in subject areas of their choice.

OPL requires 32-hours initially; thereafter 10 hours required per year, includes 4 hours Forest Practices a year.

Companies seeking OPL must FIRST enroll by joining Associated Oregon Loggers or pay OPL Subscriber fee.
