What Professional Foresters Say
The Society of American Foresters (SAF) is the national organization of professional
foresters representing the forestry profession in the United States. As the largest
professional society for foresters in the world, SAF advances the science, education,
technology, and practice of forestry to ensure the continued health and use of forests
to benefit society. SAF members include natural resource professionals in public
and private settings, researchers, managers, practitioners, administrators, educators,
and students.
The professional forester members of SAF—through a strong foundation of science
and experience—have written 2-3 page “position statements,” which address a number
of contemporary forest issues. These position statements are crafted with prudent
consideration of environmental, economic, and social concerns. Links to these professional
