OR-OSHA has recently released some new materials that are aimed at meeting the new heat rule. Of most help to employers is a new Heat Illness Prevention Online Course and is also available en Español. This training covers 5 of the 7 training requirements, and each employer will still need to train on:
Company/jobsite specific methods of distributing and storage of cool water
How and where to access shade
Established rest break schedule
Access to first aid
Chosen method for an acclimatization plan
In addition to new training, OR-OSHA has also released a quick reference fact sheet on Rest Break Options. This fact sheet goes over all three rest break options that are referenced in the rule so you can choose which one works best for you.
You will also see a link to the NIOSH smart phone application Heat Safety Tool App. This phone application will use your location and give you the Heat Index reading for your area.
Look for the new AOL orange book, “Safety Records Book, June 2022”! This new June 2022 edition will account for the heat and smoke rules in the jobsite inspection forms, and in the safety meeting topics section. The book will also be available en Español.
