Current Issues Facing the Forest Sector

The work of the forest sector is critical to our economy and way of life. Some of these workers include but are not limited to builders, truckers, mill workers and loggers.  They have risky jobs under normal circumstances and come to work every day to ensure our families and communities have the products we need to live our lives.

Forests must be managed in order for these workers to meet our societal needs.  Without active forest management, there wouldn’t be wood to build houses to meet critical housing needs, wood residuals to make paper products for hygienic cleaning, nor would there be corrugated paper, cardboard and pallets to package and move all the goods we have delivered to our homes and stores on a daily basis.

The complicated and interconnected supply chains of logging in the woods, trucking raw materials to mills, manufacturing products, utilizing residuals for paper products and shipping goods around the world are not immune to challenges.

Thankfully, like Oregonians, the forest sector is resilient.  It has faced and overcome risks, challenges and forces beyond its control in the past and it will continue to do so!
