Moving Products to Market

Transportation is a critical part of the forest products supply chain that ensures sustainable wood resources can make their way into every human's life.

In order to achieve forest health and sustainable production goals, individuals who have obtained a commercial drivers license (CDL) and gone through rigorous training and proficiency testing must be available to move equipment, logs, biomass and products into and out of the woods.

This workforce is the glue that connects all of the other pieces of the forest products sector together!

Lowboy - Equipment Transportation

It all starts with the lowboy driver because they get necessary equipment to a jobsite. They can transport roading equipment, logging equipment as well as other necessary tools that are not legal to drive on roads and may be tracked.

Log Hauling

A log truck driver moves raw logs to the mill for processing into dimensional lumber or sheets of veneer. Veneer is eventually used to produce plywood. Dimensional lumber and plywood can then be made into other products known as mass timber where they are glued together to make larger panels, beams or other products!

Chip Trucks

Driving a chip truck is like driving many other types of big rigs. These trucks usually start at the mill and get filled with chips that were produced in the milling process.  They are then delivered to secondary markets and/or ports to be made into pulp for paper products, pellets for energy production and so much more!

End Product Transportation

Finished products usually get put onto flatbeds or in covered trucks to be taken to another facility to be manufactured into mass timber products, a big box store or delivered directly to a construction site. These trucks typically operate over the highway and are seen often in daily commutes.
