SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Promoting forestry careers through philanthropy.
The AOL Scholarship Program seeks to promote growth of the forest operator workforce by providing scholastic opportunities to those seeking to work in Oregon. Eligible education and training programs include associate and undergraduate degrees offered at a Technical School, Community College, or University along with any forestry related training program such as an apprenticeship, CDL program, or relevant certification program necessary to engage in forestry operations.
The application focuses on job seeking individuals who would benefit from targeted training to bridge the skill gap and have committed to working for one of our Forest Contractor Member companies.
The scholarship is designed to help provide relief for the cost of tuition and/or books while attending a trade/vocational school, community college or university. The scholarship award will be sent directly to the recipient’s school and deposited into the student’s account. Eligibility
Areas of Study
*Applicants wishing to pursue a fire science, wildfire management, or other such degree may apply, but these individuals only qualify for the scholarship if their intent is to work in the private sector.
POSSIBLE AWARD AMOUNT 4-year programs at Universities: Up to $6000; $1500 annual award. 2-year programs at Community Colleges: Up to $1500; $750 annual award. If recipient transfers to a qualifying University program, renewal is possible at the higher $1500 annual award rate. Areas of Study
Individuals employed by a member company wishing to upskill through a training program or licensing course are eligible for a scholarship. However, the applicant must provide a letter of reference from the member company and written documentation from the company indicating the amount of funds they will provide for the training course. The applicant must include detailed information about the program or course to be taken, including but not limited to: location, date, trainer, cost of program, etc. There is NO application deadline for this type of scholarship request as AOL recognizes that these types of programs and courses often do not coincide with the regular academic calendar. POSSIBLE AWARD AMOUNT Up to $1500; award amount depends on a needs assessment and resource availability. Notification
AOL will send each applicant an award or denial letter for their scholarship application, around May 1st.
For those awarded a scholarship, a request will be made to send back a signed copy of the award letter and a class schedule for the following term by August 1st, prior to the start of the academic year.
The scholarship award will be sent directly to the recipient’s school and deposited into the student’s account for colleges or universities. A one-time payment will be made to the technical training provider for licensing, certificate, and other training courses and programs. Criteria
Judging Criteria for College Applicants:
*Financial need is not a criteria for selection for applicants requesting funds for a 2 or 4 year degree program. It is a criteria for those requesting a scholarship to attend a certification, training program, or other such trade skill course.
Applications are reviewed by the AOL Workforce & Scholarship Committee who provide a recommendation to the AOL Board of Directors for a final decision at our Spring Board of Directors Meeting.
Scholarship application must be completed in ink or typed. No applications in pencil will be accepted.
