Providing the Services Necessary to Create Healthy Ecosystems

Restoration work is often completed through service contracts procured by a landowner. Sometimes this work occurs in tandem with commercial work to offset the cost of the service work. Either way, this non-commercial work is becoming even more critical for the public forests of Oregon that have had small fractions of their growth removed over the years.  This has resulted in overgrown forests with small trees that create major fire risks to communities and resources.

In the wildland-urban interface, this type of work is more synonymous with creating resilience through community risk reduction focusing on the home ignition zone by developing defensible space. Much of the same techniques and contracts are used in both applications however.

Sometimes the restoration work being completed is for other reasons. Stream enhancement, remediation, invasive species treatments and road brushing are all examples of other restoration activities that may occur in the woods or in the wildland-urban interface.
