Creating the Right Culture

When you hire a new employee, having the right company culture can make all the difference in weather your turn over rate it high compared to your company having long-term retention. Let's explore an example of what may occur once a new employee has been hired.

Great, you finally get some new members of the team and the on-site training begins! It can be an exciting, yet challenging time for you and the crew.

Have you heard a new employee say:
  • Maybe I’m not cut out for this job.
  • I may want to check some other options...
  • I have a family emergency!
Or maybe your crew says:
  • The new guys probably can’t handle it.
  • Wow,these new guys are lazy and don’t like to work.
  • Make the new guy do it! He needs to start with the worse job.
Your new employee feels:
  • Uninspired
  • Unmotivated
  • Disrespected
  • Useless
This may lead to the deaded no calls, no shows…

It is important to take a hard look in the mirror and maybe consider that your crew isn’t as polite, friendly, courteous, kind or welcoming to new employees as they should be.  To be quite honest, a new job can be very challenging! The powerful emotions a new hire feels at a new job, the pressure of getting it right the first time and a crappy work atmosphere can all come together into the ultimate decision of a new hire to simply move on.

So, prepping your staff on long-term goals, incentives and creating an effective team building atmosphere is what is really needed to get ahead in today's modern labor struggle.

Knowing his name and making each crew member introduce themself can let the new team member know that they are appreciated and welcome. It is powerful making the new start few like they are a part of the team right from the get go. Just because your start wasn’t the best, doesn’t mean that everyone else has to have that same horrible experience. Change starts with you! At the end of the day we spend a lot of time with our work friends, YOU, have to make the best of it.
