AOL encourages forest contractors to plan for a safe and fire-free season! The forecast for forest fuel conditions for a dry and warm summer. This forecast means that daily contractor fire prevention precautions on every jobsite, must be applied throughout the summer.
The most recent June 1st ‘Wildland Fire Outlook’ forecast for Oregon forests calls for above-average temperature and below-average summer precipitation for all Oregon forestland zones, during July through September. For all summer months, three Oregon areas are forecast to have “above normal significant fire potential”—Northwest Oregon, Central Oregon, and Southeast Oregon rangelands. The remainder of Oregon forestlands are predicted to have normally-dry conditions.
Significant fire potential is the likelihood that large forest wildfires could readily ignite, rapidly spread, and demand extraordinary firefighting efforts/costs.
