August Driving is More Dangerous

Friday, August 4, 2023   (0 Comments)

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration records going back to 1994, more Americans die in car crashes in the month of August than at any other time of the year.

7 of the 25 deadliest vehicle crash days occurred in August. The odds of a fatal crash increase in August, because more people are out on the road driving more miles than other times of the year. In August, driving becomes even more dangerous, because: business picks-up, people run extra errands, visit family, or take more day trips, and… impaired driving increases.

In 2020:

  • There were 35,766 fatalities from US vehicle accidents
  • That’s about 100 fatalities per day, or
  • 4 fatalities every 15 minutes
