Security Alert! Protestors Still Oppose Forestry

Friday, October 6, 2023   (0 Comments)
At least a dozen windows at Portland, Oregon’s World Forestry Center were smashed a day ahead of a forest industry conference, held September 27-28, titled ‘Who Will Own the Forest’

About a dozen protesters also blocked morning entrance to the conference, chanting “Shame” and “Clean water, clean air, not another billionaire.”  A Pacific Northwest Forest Climate Alliance spokesperson said they protested the environmental impacts of logging and, more broadly, big-business ownership of forests.

The conference continued despite the protests and criminal vandalism.  The group that organized protest outside the Forestry Center denied responsibility.  Center windows were covered with plywood, and the Portland Police Bureau is investigating the crimes.  An anonymous blog post on a website dedicated to “disseminating anti-fascist messages” took credit, saying, “We hope this action reminds anarchists that we can attack without a call to action.”
