In 1992, Oregon’s Legislature created Oregon Forest Resources Institute (OFRI) to support our forest sector with education. OFRI’s legislatively-defined purpose of this small state agency is to advance public and landowner understanding about advantages of forests, their management, industry, and products. OFRI is funded solely by a harvest tax portion, and is uniquely-governed by a ratepayer board.
Executive Director, Jim Paul, announced a new five-year Strategic Plan for OFRI. This Plan keeps OFRI as a forest education leader, and a trusted information source about forests and the many working Oregonians who sustainably manage and produce valued products from 30 million forested acres— nearly half of the state.
OFRI’s Strategic Plan lays the foundation for its essential work in four priorities: 1.Support forest sector workforce development 2.Enhance effectiveness of external communications 3.Better reach currently less-engaged audiences 4.Strengthen OFRI’s reputation
