2024 starts with some major changes going in to effect from OR-OSHA. Here are three that you will need to know, as an employer in Oregon.
Investigatory powers of OR-OSHA Division 1 were broadened by new 2023 Oregon law (Senate Bill 592). The law authorizes a “comprehensive inspection of any place of employment as deemed necessary by the department, based upon the prior violation history of the place of employment regarding any state occupational safety or health law, regulation, standard, rule or order.”
Senate Bill 592 also directed Oregon OSHA to increase civil penalties for violations, and created a new violation, “Caused or Contributed to a Work-Related Fatality”.
Serious violations increase to a range of $1,116 to $15,625 per violation oNew serious violation, “Caused or Contributed to a Work-Related Fatality,” with penalties ranging from $20,000 to $50,000 per violation oWillful or repeat violations increase to range of $50,000 to $250,000 per violation
Employers with 100 or more employees in high-hazard industries must electronically submit their OSHA Form 300 and DCBS Form 801 for case-specific data.
