Friday, June 14, 2024   (0 Comments)

With rising temperatures and increased penalties, complying with OR-OSHA's Heat Illness Prevention Rule is essential. Key requirements include:

  • Rest Breaks: Implement mandatory rest breaks in shaded or cool areas to prevent heat stress (OAR 437-002-0156).
  • Hydration: Ensure ample water—at least one quart per hour—is readily accessible to all employees (OAR 437-002-0156).
  • Training: Provide comprehensive training on recognizing and preventing heat illness symptoms (OAR 437-002-0156).
  • Emergency Plan: Develop and communicate an emergency plan for responding to heat-related illnesses (OAR 437-002-0156).
  • Acclimatization: Gradually acclimate new and returning workers to high temperatures to mitigate heat risks (OAR 437-002-0156)

In 2023, OR-OSHA cited multiple violations for small businesses not having adequate Heat Illness Prevention training and company plans, resulting in costly penalties. AOL has these company plans and training documents to help you meet these OR-OSHA requirements. Reach out today for yours!
