Fire Weather Forecast.  For August to October, the federal NICC forecasts near normal precipitation and temperatures for Oregon forests for the remainder of the fire season.  However, due to the dry set-up in June/July, above normal significant fire potential is predicted for eastern and southwestern Oregon (8/1/24).  Normal fire potential is forecast for NW OR.

 

 

US Wildfire Fighting at Top Level.  NICC reports 59 large US wildland fire incidents were burning on 2.25 million acres, deploying 22,000 firefighters for over five weeks (8/20/24). Oregon Department of Forestry reports 18 active large fires burning 500,000 acres, deploying 8,000 firefighters (8/19/24).
