Driving Safety Tips for Fog

Friday, December 6, 2024   (0 Comments)
If you have been driving in the Willamette Valley this week, you know the hazards of fog. Fog can significantly reduce visibility, increasing the risk of accidents. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and Oregon State Police (OSP) urge drivers to follow these tips for safe driving in fog conditions:

  • Slow Down: Reduce speed to allow for unexpected hazards.
  • Use Low Beams: High beams can reflect off fog, impairing visibility.
  • Increase Following Distance: Maintain extra space to stop safely.
  • Avoid Sudden Moves: Signal early for lane changes or turns.
  • Stay Focused: Turn off distractions and listen for emergency vehicles.
  • Use Roadside Reflectors: These can help you navigate in dense fog.
If visibility is too low, pull over safely and wait for conditions to improve. Stay alert and prioritize safety to ensure a safe journey.
