Safe Logging Near BPA Transmission Lines

Friday, March 21, 2025   (0 Comments)
Guidelines for logging near Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) transmission lines emphasize key safety precautions:
  • Always consider lines energized
  • Maintain at least 25 feet of clearance (50 ft for cable yarding systems)
  • Never fuel equipment under a power line
  • Keep BPA roads accessible, and remove debris quickly for emergency access
  • If a tree contacts a line, promptly evacuate and report to BPA Dispatch at (800) 392-0816

Adhering to these rules can safeguard both crews and critical infrastructure.  For complete instructions on grounding procedures, protective barriers, and proper burn plans, logon to oregonloggers.org/ and find a document in the Safety Materials section about safe logging near transmission lines!
